Stampin’ Up! Hardwood Watercolor Bokeh!

Stampin’ Up! Hardwood Watercolor Bokeh!

Hey there! I voted today,  and this is the first time ever I have cried and prayed in the voting booth, but  God is good all the time!

I've been playing around with the Bokeh technqiue a bit lately:

Stampin_up_watercolor_words_carolpaynestamps1

Hardwood background stamped with Early Espresso on Crumb Cake, layered on an Early Espresso card base. A Watercolor Words greeting.

Starting with watercolor paper,I stamped a Vintage Leaves leaf with Early Espresso, heat-embossed the greeting with white powder. Spritz the whole piece lightly with water. Used my AquaPainter to apply full-strength Cajun Craze and Daffodil Delight reinker in random splotches. Dried with a Heat Tool. I laid a template punched with circle punches of varying sizes to sponge Whisper White Craft ink for the Bokeh look. Removed the template, added a few more random sponge dauber circles.

I heat-set the ink before layering on an Early Espresso mat.

Inside I used another sentiment from Watercolor Words and stamped the same Vintage Leaves leaf with Daffodil Delight ink. I used a splatter stamp from Gorgeous Grunge to add the Cajun Craze scatter of ink.

The bokeh technique is so much fun, you will probably want to try it! Find and order your supplies from my online store: www.carolpayne.stampinup.net

Stampin’ Up! International Stampin’ Up! Blog Highlight Random Acts of Kindness, Encouragement!

Stampin’ Up! International Stampin’ Up! Blog Highlight Random Acts of Kindness, Encouragement!

Hey there! Today's post is for Kylie Bertucci's International Stampin' Up! Blog Highlight featuring Random Acts of Kindness. What's a Random Act of Kindness (also known as a RAK)? When you do something nice for someone is not expecting; they haven't asked or it's not their birthday, etc.

My RAK is for a special friend who has been caring for her elderly mother for several years. Her mother has dementia and things are not going well. The stress is increasing for my friend, so I'm dedicating today's project to her. I will also be popping this in the mail right away!

I've been wanting to try my hand at the Bokeh technique for a long time.

Stampin_up_thoughtful_branches_bokeh_carolpaynestamps2

I used a sentiment from Thoughtful Branches, heat embossed with white powder on vellum. I added circles of White Craft ink using a Sponge Dauber. I scored the ends of the vellum, wrapping behind the layer with SNAIL so no adhesive would show through.

Bokeh is a photography term. From Photography Life.com:

Bokeh, also known as “Boke” is one of the most popular subjects in photography. The reason why it is so popular, is because Bokeh makes photographs visually appealing, forcing us to focus our attention on a particular area of the image. The word comes from Japanese language, which literally translates as “blur”.

I punched a stencil from scrap cardstock using 1 3/4", 1 1/4", 1", 3/4", and 1/2" circle punches. I laid it over the Night of Navy layer, adding Night of Navy, Wisteria Wonder, and So Saffron with sponge daubers. I laid the same stencil over the sponged circles, off-setting a little and sometimes a lot to sponge Whisper White Craft ink with a swirling motion. I added some Whisper White ink circles by directly patting with the Sponge Dauber to fill in blank areas.

Inside I used the stencil to sponge Night of Navy and Wisteria Wonder. The sentiment is from Thoughtful Branches. If you haven't ordered this set yet, don't wait much longer; this set won't be available after August 31st!

Stampin’ Up! Another Thank You Bokeh Technique!

Stampin’ Up! Another Thank You Bokeh Technique!

Hey there! Whew! What a whirlwind the last 5 days have been, between taxes, a Birthday Card Buffet, and the free shipping promotion, I am exhausted. Tomorrow afternoon we are throwing a wedding shower for a girl from our church, and the list goes on for next week!

Today's card expresses how I've felt the past few days with the response I've received with the free shipping offer:

Stampin_up_another_thank_you_bokeh_technique
THANK YOU one & all! Everyone who placed an online order with me this week will receive a Thank You Project Packet in the mail soon!

This card uses the Bokeh Technique to achieve the look of light glinting and flaring in the background. Here's a quick rundown of how to do it:

1. Starting with a neutral cardstock, such as Very Vanilla or Whisper White, sponge color in random areas, overlapping the colors just a bit.

2. Punch or cut circles of varying sizes into a sheet of card stock or acetate (window sheet). The circles need to be different sizes and not punched in lines, they need to be punched randomly. You are creating a sponging stencil.

3. Lay the stencil over the sponged card stock. Sponge Whisper White Craft ink into the circle openings. Sponge some of the circles lighter and some darker. Move the stencil a little bit and repeat the sponging with White Craft ink. Continue to move and sponge until you like the effect.

4. Allow to air-dry or speed up the drying time with a Heat Tool.

5. Stamp over the Bokeh background with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
