Carol Payne Stamps Sunday Swap Day October 7th!

Carol Payne Stamps Sunday Swap Day October 7th!

Hey there! It's the first Sunday of October and time for Sunday Swap Day! yay!

First, a often-overlooked  but lovely set from the Holiday Catalog, Pleasant Pheasants, was the choice of Carol Slack for her swap. She used the Buffalo Check to create her background, which gives it so much warmth with the Early Espresso ink on Cajun Craze!

Stampin_up_pleasant_pheasants_carolpaynestamps1

Carol stamped the pheasants with Cajun Craze ink, then used a Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to move the color over them while at the same time adding shimmer!

The inside features a lovely sentiment that is included in the set:

Cards created by Mary Lang never disappoint! Mary also used Pleasant Pheasants, but she focused on the wheelbarrow, bucket, and foliage for her autumnal creation. She embossed the Cajun Craze background with the Swirls and Curls Textured Impressions folder for more interest.

Mary's creation is an easel-fold Thanksgiving card!

Finally, Linda Pagel also used the Swirls & Curls Textured Impressions folder to emboss the Night of Navy background of this clean-and-simple Winter Woods card.

Linda used Silver Embossing Powder to give the trees dimension and shine. This card could be used for any occasion!

Stampin’ Up! Adapting to Change!

Stampin’ Up! Adapting to Change!

Hey there! One thing I've learned in my 57 years of life: things don't always go the way you plan. You can try to keep things on track, but sometimes you just have to roll with it.

Such was the case yesterday. It was Sunday, which means Sunday Swap Day. Although I have LOTS of swaps made with gorgeous products from the new Annual Catalog, in prepping for my Open House I hadn't taken any pictures of them.

So Sunday came and I had nothing to blog. I made a decision: no blog post, just take care of this day and, taking a line from Darcy's favorite Disney movie, "let it go"!

Letting go is hard for me. Is it hard for you?

Letting go means discarding my expectations of how I think my life should be, how I should perform, how "perfect" I want to think I am. But I've finally realized, and wait for it:    NOBODY'S PERFECT.

Life's too short to worry and stress about little stuff like missing a blog post. My devotional this morning:  "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?" (Luke 12:25-26 NIV)

This realization doesn't mean I won't continue to strive to take good care of my family, improve my stamping style, or blog. It means if I miss a blog post now and then, I'm not going to agonize, I'm not going to worry or stress. It will be o.k.

Will I still "bite off more than I can chew" sometimes? Probably. By nature I'm a "tidsoptimst"; I think I have more time to get things done than I actually have.

Will I still sometimes "burn the midnight oil" to get "caught up"? Probably. (On a side note, what does "caught up" really mean? It sounds like I am perpetually behind, which I probably am, but that's negative thinking I don't need)

I guess the point of my ramblings is this: I'm trying to relax my mind, trust God with everything -the big AND little stuff, and keep on stampin' on.

Now, I want to share with you a baby step that was actually a great stride for me:

Stampin_up_just_because_for_mothers_day_carolpaynestamps1

I know! Did you gasp? I wrote in a greeting on a hand-stamped card!

I completely forgot to make a "fresh" Mother's Day card!

Mother's Day morning flipping through my card stash, I decided to adapt this "just because" card:

Stampin_up_just_because_for_mothers_day_carolpaynestamps2

It's not my style to not make a "fresh card". I'm more likely to give no card at all if I haven't freshly made the "perfect" one.

But you know what? It was ok. My MIL's favorite color is purple, she loves butterflies, and at 89, she thinks I print my cards on the computer anyway, so all that mattered was that we gave her a card.

"Strive for progress, not perfection" is a mantra I'm trying to adopt along with trusting God with everything.

Hope my ramblings help you today in some small way.

Until tomorrow, have a Stampingrox! day!

Stampin’ Up! Tranquil Tuilps!

Stampin’ Up! Tranquil Tuilps!

Hey there! One of the awesome perks of being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator is to get to order new products early, even host sets that you can only get by having a stamping party! All of the new Host sets are pretty much ones you can't-live-without, but my fav of the one's coming in the new catty is the set I used for today's card, Tranquil Tulips!

Stampin_up_tranquil_tulips_carolpaynestamps2

I stamped these pretty Berry Burst blooms on a layer of Whisper White, layered on new In Color Berry Burst, layered on a Whisper White Notecard. I stamped the stems and leaves with new In Color Tranquil Tide.

These blooms are two-step, which means there are two separate images for each flower. To stamp the larger, lighter portion of the bloom, "stamp-off" on scratch paper after you have inked the stamp but before you stamp on the paper. The leaves and stems are Tranquil Tide.

Carol's Stamping Tip: Stamp the three-stemmed set of stems first, then the blooms. It helps to stamp the two-step bloom when you can see the top of the stem. Stamp the leaves  last.

NOTE: Tranquil Tulips images are intended to look faded to give them a vintage feel. This makes it easier to stamp because they aren't perfect on purpose!

Stampin_up_tranquil_tulips_carolpaynestamps4

I stamped the greeting a frame using the Label Me Pretty Bundle, which includes the Pretty Label Punch. Berry Burst 1/2" Finely Woven Ribbon is the finishing touch!

Stampin_up_tranquil_tulips_carolpaynestamps3

Just Add Text provided the inside sentiment.

Stampin_up_tranquil_tulips_carolpaynestamps6
