Hey there! Today is the start of the Holiday Catalog! No more "sneak peeks"; you can order these inspiring products for yourself today!
I joined the Splitcoaststampers Creative Crew for the fall semester. The Creative Crew is the Stampin' Up! Design Team on Splitcoaststampers, participating in challenges each month. The September theme is Fall. I love, love, LOVE fall!
The first challenge: create simple and stepped-up versions of the same project. I used the Painted Harvest Bundle and the Burlap Background for mine.
For my simple project I stamped everything on a Sahara Sand card base. NO LAYERS! (gasp!)
Here's a tip with the large background stamps (clear mount): If you like to place your image face-up on your stamping surface like I do and then lay your card stock on the inked image to gently rub to transfer the ink, YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE THE GIANT STAMPING BLOCK!!! You can leave the stamp inside the case, ink with the pad, and then lay your card stock on it! This was a light bulb moment for me I just had to share! You will still need the largest clear block for some of our other large images and to arrange multiple stamps for collage stamping, but to leave the background stamps in the case this way is a huge time saver!
After stamping the Burlap image with Sahara Sand ink, I went ahead and stamped the sunflower layer twice with Daffodil Delight, turning the stamp about a quarter turn between inkings to get a nice, full bloom. I stamped the inside flower layer with Fresh Fig, the center with stamped-off Soft Suede, and the "seeds" with full-strength Soft Suede.
To stamp the Tranquil Tide leaves I stamped the largest bloom twice on a large Post-it Note, cut it out to create a mask, covered the sunflower with the mask before stamping the leaves around the bloom with the ends stamping over the mask. When I removed the mask the leaves have the look of depth, as if they are coming from behind the bloom.
I kept the front free of any other embellishment, I just let the stamps and ink do the work.
I added a card base of Tranquil Tide and a layer of Fresh Fig to start my stepped-up version:
I stamped the Butterfly Basics greeting on a 1" strip of Sahara Sand that I punched each end with the Banner Triple Punch. I scored twice 1/8" apart on each side of the words, folding on the score lines to make a raised banner. After sponging the edges with Soft Suede I popped them up on the card with a two-dimensional stack under the center and a glue dot on each end.
I used the same masking technique for the leaves around the sunflower, adding a Gold Faceted Gem to the center to complete the stepped-up look.
I love this Painted Harvest sentiment:
