Another “Here Come the Holidays!” Sample!

Another “Here Come the Holidays!” Sample!

Last Christmas was all about the Origami Christmas tree:Columbus Day008©Stampin'Up!™1990-2008
This was a great card and everyone loved making it (well, almost everyone!) It was rather time consuming, was bulky in the envelope, and used alot of Designer Series Paper. This paper is no longer available, so this year I searched for an easier, more economical Designer Tree Card and came up with this:
3©Stampin'Up!™1990-2008

Cute, isn't it? This tree uses the "Holiday Treasures" Designer Series Paper, the Photo Corner Punch, "Time for a Tree" standard wheel, "Best Yet" level 1 Hostess, and the Styled Vanilla Hodgepodge Hardware. (I'm sure you are wondering how come I have the Styled Vanilla Hodgepodge Hardware frames when we can't order the whole set until tomorrow. It's because as a SU! demo we can order some cool new items in BULK  ahead of time so we can have more on hand to use in our parties, classes and camps. Just another perk to having your own Stampin' Up! business!)

I have a little tip for you when you use the Styled Vanilla frames: The Chocolate Chip cardstock is attached to the inside of the frame with mini-glue dots. I found as I was making my sample that the mini-glue dots did not want to stick very well to the Styled Vanilla frame (possibly a by-product of the vanilla finish). We discovered during my "Here Come the Holidays!" camp that if you rough up the finish on the back side of the frame with one of our Sanding Blocks, the glue-dot will stick! Thanks to one of my great stampers for the suggestion! I am always learning new tips and ideas from all of you!

Sometimes when I sit down to create a project, I have a picture in my head of what I want to do, but I don’t always get what I want! This first card is that way. My daughter, Jessica, took our family picture on Thanksgiving, so I had her print a bunch of wallets so I could create our family Christmas card around it. She edited it with a cool action called "Chocolate Sepia" (I think! sorry J if that’s wrong!). At first I thought I would use Bordering Blue and the Flannel Plaid Background, but the result just looked faded and blah. (Even though I’ve been a demo for 5 years, I still turn out a dud now and then!) So I tried a again and I think I nailed it this time!

Gedc0128So what do you think? After seeing some of the ornament cards I’ve made tonight, Mark (my DH!) suggested I make our family card into an actual ORNAMENT that can be hung on the tree! How cool is my hubby! I switched to Close to Cocoa cardstock and used the All About Christmas Jumbo Wheel in Chocolate Chip. I used Brushed Gold cardstock and Encore Metallic Gold ink. I finished it off with gold brads and the star punch again. I sponged the edges of the Chocolate Chip star with gold ink before I layered it on top of the gold star with mini-glue dots. It will take some time to make over 100 of these, but it will be worth it!

I can’t wait for my Spring/Summer 2008 Collection pre-order to arrive! Demonstrators get a special sneek peek and get to pre-order from all catalogs and minis a month early. I ordered a LARGE STAR punch along with a bunch of other cool new stuff (and the stamps were an extra 15% off just for us!), so I can’t wait!

Homespun Christmas Tree!

Here’s a card we will be making at an upcoming hostess’ stamp camp along with Boho Frosty from the previous post! We will be making 4 cute cards at Robin Engelage’s stamp camp in Coulterville on November 29th! This card I CASED off the Stampin’ Up!Gedc0074
website. It’s so great to be able to look up card ideas by the stamp set I want to use! We are using the Christmas Tree from the Year After Year Stamp set, along with both the Linen and Flannel Plaid backgrounds. Adding a little red gingham ribbon and faux stitching with the white gel pen finish it off nicely!

Gedc0075 November here in Southern Illinois has been awesome! The trees in Jefferson and Franklin Counties are just as beautiful as they were in October, although it’s different trees. The maples are all gone, but the oaks are a beautiful orange and burgundy I’ve never seen before. They are like that everywhere, whether you go to Benton, Mt Vernon, or Bonnie!
I CASED this Boho Frosty Card from my downline, Linda. She may have CASED it from somewhere else, but I have no idea where! Anyway, I had fun stamping this card with the Frosty set, Outlaw Designer paper (yes, that’s Outlaw paper under the Blue Bayou Canvas stamped over it!) and blender pens with Ruby Red and Blue Bayou ink! Rhinestone Circle brad added just the right touch of bling!
