Missing My Moms

I prepped the previous post before our whirlwind weekend of wedding showers began, so I wasn't really thinking about Mother's Day until this morning. I don't have a mom anymore, which is not uncommon for someone my age, I'm almost 50 afterall, and the baby of my family as well. My brother is 18 years older than me and my sister is 12 years older. I was pretty much raised like an only child. My mother passed away of a brain tumor from metastasized lung cancer when I was almost 11, and my step-mom, who acquired me as a step-daughter 6 months later passed away 4 years ago. So I have lost two moms, and my dad passed away 15 years ago. My brother is almost 68 and my sister is 62.

I miss feeling safe, taken care of, not having to worry about what's for dinner, (or having to fix it). I guess I just miss being "mothered". Most days I'm too busy to think about it, but on this day of honoring Mother's, I just wish I had one of mine to honor.

I will spend the day with my kids, being their "Mom", and I am thankful that I have had the blessing of being Mom to Jessica Kylene, Kimberly Ruth, Troy Clifton, Alisa Kaylyn, Logan Mark, and Benjamin Bruce. I'm also blessed to be a mother-in-law to Johnny (Jessica's husband) and Tony (Kimberly's husband) I couldn't ask for finer husbands for my girls and have never doubted for a minute of their love and care for them. This year we are less than 2 months away from Alisa's wedding to Cody, and once again we are delighted with this fine young man who is going to take care of our youngest girl.

Of course with the blessing of being a mom come the blessing of being a grammy. Maddie Kate, Ava, and Cohen are added blessings that make every family gathering that much more special.

We will be gathering today for a family lunch (eaten out, yeah!) and then to Jessica's for dessert and family games.

So while I miss my moms, I am blessed to be a mom, and will hug my children tight today. If you still have your mom, give her lots of hugs while you still can.

love to you all,
