Simple Birthday Thanks and the Pop-up Cake!

Simple birthday thanks©Stampin'Up!™1990-2009
I started working on one of the designs for the "Birthday Blowout" Stamp Camp this Saturday, May 16th, and this is the card I promised to show you! For the front of the card we are using "Simple Birthday Thanks" an adorable one-piece stamp set that can be used as a children's thank-you card or just as a giant cupcake as shown here. The cupcake liner is done with the "Washington Apple" Designer Series Paper(on sale B3G1F this month).and although it doesn't show up well in this picture, has been run through the Paper Crimper to give it that true "cupcake" texture! The "Happy Birthday to you!" is from the single stamp, "Birthday Wish", found on page 208 of the catalog. I punched it out with the 1 3/4" Circle punch, then mounted that on a scalloped circle from the Bigz XL Pennant Die. The sprinkles on the Chocolate Chip frosting are made with the now-retired 1/4" circle punch (please, oh please, bring it back, SU!), and the cherry on top was made by stamping on the back side of the Sticky Page paper, cutting out the cherry, then transferring it to Close to Cocoa cardstock. After cutting out around the cherry again, I rubbed my embossing buddy over the orange plastic cover, then removed just the plastic over the stem. I sprinkled Chocolate Fine Supernove glitter over the stem, then removed the rest of the cherry's plastic cover and sprinkled the cherry's body with Chunky Essentials red glitter! Voia! The whole cupcake is popped up on the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. The background of Close to Cocoa has been wheeled with the "Daisy Dash" jumbo wheel and a Close to Cocoa jumbo cartridge.

Now what you've all been waiting for!!!!!!!:

Isn't this cool? And even better, it was actually easy to do! This is just my second attempt, and the only reason I'm not displaying my first sample is that it's a rather boring solid Pink Pirouette! This cake "pops" out at you when you open the card, and is just darling! I do have a few tips for ease of assembly and presentation, but those tips are only relevant as your are assembling the cake, so I hope you will RSVP to me soon to come to the class at 10 a.m or 2 p.m. Saturday where you get to make TWO of these cards, along with 8 more!

I've done ALOT of stamping today, so I will be back tomorrow with more to show you!

Until tomorrow,
